ALL CLASSES Slide 1 Start Your Comedy Career Improv Comedy Whether you’re looking to learn the craft of improv or just want to get started in comedy, our improv program is a great place to start! Students will be introduced to the UCB concept of game” in comedy and develop their scenework. Sketch Comedy Through the concept of game” and with feedback from instructors and classmates, students will craft their very own written comedic scenes. The program culminates with students writing and producing their own sketch show. Writing Program This program offers aspiring writers a comprehensive curriculum focused on the art and craft of comedic TV writing. Through courses and workshops led by industry experts, students learn key elements designed to give them a strong foundation in TV writing. Musical Improv The Musical Improv Program invites students to develop both their musical and comedic instincts, allowing students to seamlessly integrate between scene and song. Students begin the program learning to comfortably improvise song structures with an accompanist before moving on to more advanced techniques. View Programs Slide 1 Why UCB? Learn More Featured Classes Festival Hacks Jun 2nd Online | Sundays 2:30pm-5:30pm PT ONLINE WRITING A MULTICAM SITCOM PILOT In this class students will develop a multicam idea and then outline and write a multicam pilot, immersing themselves in the tone, rhythms, and style of this genre of comedy under the guidance of Julia Meltzer, who has written multicam pilots for CBS and ABC. REGISTER Festival Hacks Jun 1st Los Angeles | Sat & Sun 10am-2pm PT Disruptor: Intro to Modern Clown Modern clown isn’t about learning rules. It’s learning how and when to break them. This two-day intensive explores risk, chaos, subversion, paradox, instability, misdirection and the possibilities that exist on the other side of embarrassment and failure. Open to all levels. REGISTER Festival Hacks May 28th New York | Tuesdays 12pm-3pm ET INTRO TO STAND-UP COMEDY If you’ve wanted to try stand up but weren’t sure where to start, this class is as good a place as any! This performance and writing workshop will cover all the basics of the form, including: generating material, joke writing, creating set lists and of course, actually doing stand up. Whether you’ve never picked up a microphone or you’re looking to get back in the habit, this class will help you figure out how you want to approach stand up comedy. REGISTER Festival Hacks Jun 2nd Los Angeles | Sundays 3pm-6pm PT MUSICAL IMPROV 101 Students will learn to improvise songs with an accompanist using song structures, and then by creating their own structures as they go along. We will also explore the use of music and musical theater genre elements in improvised scenes. By learning to work with and create their own rhythms and patterns, students will gain skills that they can apply to all forms of Improv.
